My November Favourites 2014

Hey everyone!

I really can't get my head round the fact that it's the end of November, another month is almost finished and I find that slightly crazy.  I feel like this year has gone in so quickly!
November has been a very busy month for me between college and work but I've always tried to fit in some time to relax with a good book or one of my favourite movies.
I hope you all enjoy seeing some of the things I've liked in November.

YouTube Channels

I really love Dottie's channel.  Her videos are very unique and imaginative.  I found her channel through her boyfriend's channel and I'm so glad that I subscribed.  I've been re-watching a lot of Dottie's videos this month and I've loved doing this.  I love how she has quite a lot of topical/serious videos and isn't just uploading your 'typical' video, her videos are very imaginative.

This channel is ran by brothers John Green (yes, that's author John Green) and Hank Green.  This channel never fails to make me smile.  I think that they have created an amazing community (Nerdfighteria) on YouTube.  I have probably learnt more from a day of watching vlogbrothers videos than I have on certain days that I spent in school.  This is probably my favourite thing about this channel, I always learn something new.

Blogs

Reckless
I love Allie so much!  She is such a lovely person and her blog is amazing!  Allie's blog has been the breathe of fresh air that I have desperately needed in my life.  It's challenging yet fun and her personality really shines through in her writing.
Her posts always make me smile and I always feel like she's just sitting and chatting to me when I'm reading her posts and I really love this.
I'm now at the stage when I get so super excited when I see that Allie has posted - I look forward to reading her new posts so much!

Rainbows & Unicorns
'Rainbows & Unicorns' is Marie's blog and not only is it a lovely blog but it's written by such a lovely girl!  I love just scrolling through Marie's blog and I love, love, loved her post 'Outfit Of The Day...November 2014' the photography in this post was really nice and I loved all her outfits - seriously, I wish I owned her wardrobe!  Like I said, Marie is really lovely and I definitely think you should all have a nosy around her blog - you won't regret it!

Music

You probably gathered from My November Playlist that I still love listening to Defy You Stars.  I'm beyond excited to hear their album which is being released very soon.
This month I've been really loving their songs 'Eventually', 'You're What It's All About' and 'Through To You'.  I was so happy when they released the track list for their album and saw that these three songs will be on the record.
I'd definitely say that Defy You Stars are one of my favourite bands and I'm really excited to see what's coming up in the future for them, especially with the release of their album.
If you'd like to read my interview with Nikk Banos from Defy You Stars then you can do that here.

All Time Low

This month not only did I purchase All Time Low's first EP 'Put Up or Shut Up' but I also got tickets to see them on their joint arena tour with You Me At Six next year.  I'm so excited to see them live and listening to their EP has made me more excited.  If you're also going to the tour please let me know in the comments.
I've been playing 'Break Out! Break Out!' and 'Lullabies' a lot since I bought 'Put Up or Shut Up' and I think it's a great EP.

Movies

Harry Potter & The Prisoner Of Azkaban

I don't think I've ever really expressed it on here but I have a lot of love (some people call it obsessing) for Harry Potter!  I love both the books and the movies and can talk about both on end with a fellow Potterhead for way too long.
This moth I decided to rewatch (for about the millionth time) one of my favourites from the series which is 'Harry Potter & The Prisoner Of Azkaban'.
I love this film so much, I feel it's when the Harry Potter stories start to get quite 'dark' (not that they aren't in the first two - his parents die in the first book), especially with the introduction o Azkaban Prison and the dementors.  But I absolutely love the introduction of Patronuses in 'The Prisoner Of Azkaban' and what they represent.

Books

Love Letters To The Dead
By
 Ava Dellaira

You may have already seen in my post The Power Of Words that this book means a lot to me.  I didn't know what to expect from it but had pretty high expectations anyway.  I would definitely put this book down as one of my favourites and I would rate it up there with the likes of 'The Perks Of Being A Wallflower' by Stephen Chbosky.
What I really love is that although there is obviously a lot of focus on the main character, all the other characters have their own complicated and unique stories which the author explores.  I really love this because it means you feel a strong attachment to all of the characters and you want to find out more about them.

I hope you've enjoyed reading about some of the things I've liked this month, let me know in the comments what you've been loving in November, I'd love to hear from you.

My November Playlist 2014

Hey everyone!
It's almost the end of November which means I really need to get my act together and start buying Christmas presents!  I have the ideas in my head but I actually need to start buying the presents.
This month my thoughts and feelings have been everywhere.  I've had some really good days and some pretty bad ones.  So this month's playlist is a real mixture of songs.

Defy You Stars (Ft. Phil Tacoronte) - Eventually

All Time Low - Time Bomb

7 Minutes In Heaven - Battleground (Acoustic)

Dodie Clark - Just A Dream

All Time Low - Vegas

7 Minutes In Heaven - Misconnections (Acoustic)

Emma Blackery - Perfect

Mallory Knox - Shout At The Moon

Defy You Stars - You're What It's All About

All Time Low - Actors

A Day To Remember - City Of Ocala

7 Minutes In Heaven - Rotation (Acoustic)

Sleeping With Sirens - Satellites

I really don't think words can explain how much love I have for 7 Minutes In Heaven's music.  I've been listening to them for a few months and I can't believe I'm only just sharing them with you all.  Well, I'm actually going to admit to wanting to keep them as my little musical secret for a while.  But I'm sharing them with you now and I really can't stress enough how much I think you should listen to their music.
Even if you don't enjoy this genre of music (pop punk) then you'll most probably enjoy their acoustic songs (I've linked one of my favourites - 'Rotation' - as a video above).
I'm pretty desperate to get my own copy of their EP 'The Statement' cause I've listened to it on YouTube and I absolutely love it.

I've talked about Defy You Stars quite a lot here and I even got to interview their frontman Nikk Banos (you can read the interview here).  I'm gonna take a lot of happiness in talking about them again.  I've had their songs 'Eventually' and 'You're What It's All About' blasting through my earphones a lot this month, they're both great songs.  I particularly love 'You're What It's All About' I think it has quite a haunting sound to it but it's still really beautiful.
I just think they're a really amazing band and deserve to go far in the music industry.
I was also very excited when they announced the track list for their upcoming album - I seriously can't wait to get my hands on a copy when it's released.
I'd also absolutely love a collaboration between 7 Minutes In Heaven and Defy You Stars, I think it would be brilliant.

You may have already read in my post The Power Of Words that I listened to the song 'Actors' by All Time Low for the first time this month.  I have so much love for this song.  Dynamically, lyrically and atmospherically I think it's brilliant.  It overwhelmed with an emotion I can't describe and this made me love it even more.
Since I booked me and my friend tickets to see All Time Low and You Me At Six (I am beyond excited for February!) I've been listening to All Time Low with a different view.  I'm still trying to get my head round the fact that I'll be seeing them in concert!

I hope you've enjoyed reading about some of the music I've been enjoying this month.  Let me know in the comments what music you've been listening too recently and also any songs you think I should check out.

The Power Of Words

Hey everyone!

If I'm being honest I wasn't going to actually write this post until a few minutes ago when I listened to the song 'Actors' by All Time Low for the first time.  When I listened to it I got this feeling that I love, but it's a feeling I haven't had in a long time and it reminded me why I love music so much.
I've also just finished reading the book 'Love Letters To The Dead' by Ava Dellaira, it's one of the most incredible books I've ever read and this definitely reminded me why I love writing as much as I do.
This also means that I have no idea where this post is going or if I'm even going to post this, I just know that I want to write something so I'm sorry if this post is awful.

Recently my heads been mega busy and I've had a lot going on.  Spending time with my family, talking/texting/emailing with my friends, blasting the music I love very loudly through my earphones and escaping to fictional worlds in books has helped keep me grounded, or at least to have some time to appreciate the things I love.

When I started this blog I didn't think anything would come of it, I thought I'd put up a few posts and then give because that's what I tend to do with most things.  But I stuck at it because it's a way of combining two thing I love so much; music and writing.

I think that words can be a powerful thing, whether they're in a book, on the back of a postcard, a poem, lyrics, an English essay, a blog post, an advert, a note you're passing to your friend in class, a letter, an email, it's an endless list.  We use words everyday but I feel that a lot of the time people forget how powerful words can actually be.

I love how with music the artists take these words and make them even more powerful by putting them into a song.

What I also love about music is how artists can take all these messed up feelings that I have and actually find the words that explain what they are.  Sometimes I listen to the music and have no idea what the lyrics are (if you're a Fall Out Boy fan you'll know what I mean - you're lying if you say you could make out all the lyrics the first time you listened to the 'Folie à Deux' album).  But I kind of love that because some musicians really have the ability to make you feel the words even if you don't know what they are yet.

 Photo (x)

I've recently been reminded how powerful words can be.  In one case it was when a poem caused me to cry.  In another case it was when a text message made me feel really appreciated.  And as you've already read in one case a song overwhelmed me with an emotion that I can't describe, and a book made me appreciate the people in my life a lot.

I think what I'm trying to get at is that I really love words and I really love how putting various sounds to these words creates music.  I also really love how words can make us feel certain ways, bring back memories and make us want to change the world in a good way.

There are words that I want to drown myself in and there are words that I want to share with the world.  There are words in books that have created new worlds and there are words that when blasting through speakers make me feel so alive.
There are words that I've said and that I've written that I wish I could erase from existence, because they were powerful in the wrong way and I regret them so much.  There are words that I want to share with everyone I love and there are words that I just want to keep as my own.  There are words that I want to write for myself and there are words that I wish I could say belonged to me originally.

The words we use are powerful and we need to remember this.  We need to remember to use our words, what we say, think and write, and use them for good.  We also need to remember that our words will always have an affect on someone else in one way or another, we need to try our best to make sure this affect is never negative.

Your words are powerful, use them wisely.

Is it really All About That Bass?

Hey everyone!

This week I wanted to talk to you all about the song 'All About That Bass' by Meghan Trainor.
I would just like to make it clear that in no way am I meaning to send out any hate or negativity with this post.

When I first heard about this song (I hadn't yet listened to it myself) I was really excited because it's the first song to enter the UK Official Singles Chart Top 40 based purely on streams, I still think this is really amazing.
I was then pretty excited as I'd been told that lyrically, it had a great message behind it.
In a way I feel that it has a positive message but at the same time I'm not sure if it does.
To be honest I'm quite confused about what the message of this song actually is.

It seems to be that in society today there is a large amount of pressure on both girls and boys to look a certain way.  This image for girls tends to be thin and to have clear skin (or to at least cover our spots and blemishes using makeup).  This image for boys tends to be muscular and 'fit'.
What I like about this song is that it's saying it doesn't matter if you're a 'bigger' size.  The reason that I like this message is because I personally believe it, your jean size is not the most important thing about you.

But at the same time this also applies to those people who may be seen as 'smaller' sizes.  A lot of people don't realise that these people are also put under pressure by society and that they can also deal with harassment because of the way they look.  This is why I really hate the use of the term 'skinny bitches' in this song.  I hate it as a term full stop and I feel it's quite 'skinny shaming'.

But at the same time I think some of the lyrics are really great such as

'I see the magazine workin' that Photoshop
We know that sh*t ain't real
C'mon now, make it stop'

and

'Cause every inch of you is perfect
From the bottom to the top'

So really my opinions on this song (lyrically) are mixed and I don't really know what to think about it.  But I am glad that it's spreading a better message than a lot of other chart songs and I do feel that it is quite 'body positive'.
You can read some more blog posts about this song here and here.  I found these posts pretty interesting and they have different views on the song.

Let me know in the comments what you all think of this song, I genuinely would love to find out other peoples opinions on the message behind this song.

p.s  I know that a few weeks ago I promised you all an album dissection post for 'Folie à Deux' by Fall Out Boy and I haven't forgotten about it - it's just taking me longer to write than I expected.  I'll try my best to have it posted soon.

The Liebster Awards 2

Hey everyone!

You might remember that a while ago Ciara from Red Clover nominated me for the Liebster Awards (you can read this post here).  Now the lovely Sneha has nominated me as well and I want to say a really big thank you to her for the nomination.

The rules are:
1.  You must answer the questions sent to you
2.  Nominate 11 other Bloggers who have under 200 followers on Twitter.
3.  Ask them 11 questions of your own for them to answer in their own post.

I'm actually going to nominate bloggers who have under 200 followers on Bloglovin (you can follow me on Bloglovin here) as I don't actually have Twitter.

Here are my answers to the questions that Sneha set:

1. What is your favourite thing about blogging, and what do you find most challenging?

I really enjoy talking to other bloggers cause I think that the blogging community is very friendly.  I also just really enjoy writing about the music that I love because writing and music are two of my favourite things.
I think what I find the most challenging is actually being able to do certain songs or artists justice when I'm writing about them, it's something I struggle with.  I also get writers block very easily but then there are other days when I can't write quick enough!

2. Where would you like to be in 10 years time?

The dream for me would be working and living in London or the surrounding area.  But mainly I would like to be happy, healthy and with people that I love and care about (even if these are people I haven't actually met yet).

3. Top 5 cities in the world that you would like to visit

London (I've been once and would love to go again)
New York
Sydney
Toronto
Vancouver (I'd love to visit again)

4. What dish do you think you can cook/bake better than anyone else?

I love making cupcakes!  Although I'm pretty sure there are plenty of other people who are so much better than me when it comes to making them.
I also love making pasta dishes.

5. If you could buy one designer item and money was no object, what would it be and why?

I'm not really sure if this counts as designer but I'd really like this Vans Route 99 Jacket.

6. What mobile phone are you currently using, and what do you think of it?

I currently have the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini.  I really like it because it means I can have a lot of music on my phone which is what I mostly use it for.  The only issue is that when I first got it the back camera was really great quality but out of the blue it won't focus properly

7. What feature do you really like about yourself? (it can be a physical feature or a quality/trait)

I honestly have no idea how to answer this question!  I honestly can't think of anything just now.  Maybe my imagination?

8. One book that you would read a thousand times over without ever being bored.

This is such a difficult question for me!  I love reading and there are so many books and series that I love so much.  Probably 'Treasure In An Oatmeal Box' and any book by Sarah Dessen really.  I also really love 'If I Stay' by Gayle Foreman and 'The Perks Of Being A Wallflower' by Stephen Chbosky.  I also really love books by Rainbow Rowell.

9. At what time of the day do you feel the most productive?

Probably the evenings, I'm never awake enough the rest of the day!

10. Do you have any irrational fears?

I don't really have any irrational fears but I have a lot of weird phobias.

11. The one thing that cheers you up if you’ve had a lousy day.

Definitely a cosy night in with some good music and a hot chocolate.

The bloggers I nominate are:

Allie from Reckless

Katie from Katie Lily

Lisa from Sumptuous Elixir

Sara from Sara Pags

Nicole from Rose and Muse

Marie from Rainbows and Unicorns

 Nevaeh-leigh from Nevaeh-leigh

Sophie from Sophalou

Em from The Musings Of Em

My questions for the bloggers I have nominated:

1.  What has been your best/favourite blogging moment so far?

2.  If you could be someone else for a day who would you want to be?

3.  Do you prefer Instagram or Twitter?

4.  What's your favourite song at the moment?

5.  What are some of your favourite blogs?

6.  If you could only ever order one drink from Starbucks what would it be?

7.  What is one of your favourite inspirational/motivational quotes?

8.  List 5 of your favourite musicians.

9.  If you could be any fictional character (Book, TV or Film) who would you like to be?

10.  Do you prefer going for a walk or going for a run?

11.  What are you most looking forward too this month?

Thanks so much and I highly recommend that you all check out the blogs that I've tagged, their all really great!  Please also check out the lovely Sneha's blog who nominated me, her blog is great.
