New Year, New Resolutions & A Hopefully New Me

So it's almost the end of 2013! This year has been a huge mixture of some amazing moments, some awful moments and some moments that I just can't get my head around quite frankly.

Over the past few years I've made new years resolutions and have failed to keep them. Normally because I'm too lazy, they're unrealistic and I don't make them personal.

So for next year I've decided to make a much shorter list with things that mean something to ME and that I should be able to achieve if I put my mind to it.

1. Make more effort with my appearance

I've decided to do this as I'm a very self conscious person. I feel that if I start making a bit of an effort then I might start to actually feel comfortable in my own skin. I love looking at pretty clothes but I never imagine myself in them as I never think that I'll look good enough. I need stop comparing myself to others and start buying clothes that I want to wear (which will mostly consist of band merchandise probably). I absolutely love Jenna McDougall's and Zoe Sugg's styles so it will probably be a combination of the two styles.
For this I also think I need to start exercising more often as I'm pretty lazy to be perfectly honest and it's about time that I started exercise.

2. Learn a new instrument

For as long as I can remember I've wanted to be able to play the acoustic or the bass guitar and I've decided that I'm finally gonna try to learn one or the other.

3. Forget about the past & stop worrying about the future

I need to start living in the moment (I know, very cliché), I spend way too much of my time worrying about things that have happened or that are going to happen and I need to start enjoying myself and making the most of whatever situation I'm in.

4. Stop being so pessimistic

I'm the sort of person that constantly looks on the negative side of life and I feel like it's bringing me down as a person. I know that if I try to be more positive about things then it will have positive outcomes and hopefully make me a better person.
This is going to be an extremely difficult thing for me to do but hopefully I'll be able to get better at it over time.

5.  Start doing things for myself

I'm constantly letting other people and their views get in the way of the things that I want. I need to stop living my life for other people and start living it for myself because after all it is my life, so why don't I start living it for me?

I hope that 2014 is amazing for you wherever you are and that it brings you everything that you want. If 2013 hasn't been good for you then do what I'm doing, put it behind you and try not to think about it & lets focus on making 2014 better.

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else´s life.”

My Favourite Things About Christmas

I love Christmas.

And I love making lists.
So I've made a list about Christmas.

Christmas will always be one of my favourite times of year (the only thing I don't like is the cold weather! Maybe I should move to Australia). So here is a list of my favourite things about the season of giving, goodwill and other good stuff:

1. FOOD! (I love food all year round. But Christmas food is just scrumptious!)

2. Christmas Songs (If you know me then you'll know I love music and Christmas music is no exception!)

3. Christmas Decorations (Is there anything prettier?)

4. Cosy nights in with a good book and a bar of chocolate

5. Christmas Movies (Especially Elf. Nothing beats the Elf movie at Christmas)

There are a lot more things that I love about Christmas but I thought that I'd keep this list short and sweet! Very sorry for the short posts but there will be longer ones coming soon!

My December Playlist 2013

So I've decided to do two separate playlists this month, a December Playlist and a Christmas Playlist (which will be posted a little closer to Christmas).  Although I love Christmas a lot, if I only listened to Christmas music in December then I'd definitely turn into the Grinch after a while.
So as per usual with me, Simple Plan feature heavily in my playlist but this month it's because they've released their first ever EP!
On the 3rd of December they released 'Get Your Heart On-The Second Coming!' so as to give their fans some new music while they're writing their 5th album.  I absolutely love this EP and I'm completely in love with the 7 songs that are featured.

I've also been listening to a lot of Bastille as my friend let me borrow her copy of 'All This Bad Blood' which is an amazing listen.  Since I've been taking percussion lessons for a few years now I'm pretty passionate about music with a strong focus on the percussion section and Bastille's music definitely does that.

Anyway, enough of my fangirling and rambling, here's what I've been listening to this month (so far anyway) :

Simple Plan - Lucky One

Bastille - The Draw

Marianas Trench - Stutter

All Time Low - Canals

Simple Plan - The Rest Of Us (I cried with laughter and happiness at the music video! And it's also the song that I'm currently listening too)

The Vamps - Wild Heart

Simple Plan - Ordinary Life

We Say Sunrise - Captain My Captain

Fall Out Boy - My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Acoustic)

Simple Plan - Try

It's December!

On Friday I went into Edinburgh for a trip with my Geography class to have a look at the urban development around the city (it wasn't actually as boring as it sounds!)

It was a very cold day (I got to wear my snowman mittens!) and we had to do a lot of walking, but the 3 Starbucks I had that day helped.  I got to try my first ever Secret Starbucks recipe!  I had a Hot Butterbeer Latte which basically tasted like Christmas in a cup.  I would definitely recommend taking the recipe with you the next time you're headed to Starbucks.
I was also very pleased as it's the first time that someone at Starbucks has actually got the right spelling when their writing my name on the cup. With my name there is always a 99.9% chance that I will be called Caroline and it's something that I've got used too, so I couldn't really help but celebrate when my name was actually spelt right!
After we'd finished our walk round Edinburgh we got the opportunity to do what we wanted so me and a few friends decided to go to Pizza Hut for some food.  Although we were stuffed after the buffet we couldn't help but treat ourselves to some sharing cookie dough desserts!

After putting back on the weight we'd lost during our walk we decided to have a walk around the German Market which comes to Edinburgh every winter.  It was lovely to have a look at all the handmade gifts and smell all the interesting foods, it really got me into the Christmas spirit!

So it's officially December and I'm sort of in the Christmas spirit, I just can't believe it's that time of year already!  2013 has gone in very quickly, I just hope that I can put aside all the negativity in my life right now in order to properly enjoy Christmas!  I know it's a very stressful time for a lot of people and it's only the 2nd of December so I hope that we all get the Christmas break that we need and that's well deserved!
In case you're interested then here is the Hot Butterbeer Latte Recipe.

Today is Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is a national holiday celebrated primarily in the United States and Canada as a day of giving thanks for the blessing of the harvest and of the preceding year (yes I got that definition from Wikipedia!)

Being from the UK I've never really celebrated Thanksgiving but in the book 'Lock And Key' by Sarah Dessen there is a part about about 'Thankful Lists' and I thought it would be nice if I made one.
So here it is, my (quite detailed, yet short-ish) thankful list:

1. I'm thankful for my family.  Although there are times where I could scream I'm so annoyed or upset with them, I now know that they just want to look after me.  I understand that we have different views as to what's best for me but I think I need to take them into account more often and be appreciative of the whacky family that I belong too.
I am also thankful to my family for being forgiving towards me, it is something I greatly appreciate even if I'm not very good at showing it.

2. I'm thankful for my friends.  Although I'm close with only a small number of my friends, I love all my friends very much.  I'm the sort of person who can get on someone's nerves easily and I know I'm not an easy person to be friends with so I take all the friends I have for granted.
I've learnt from experience that not every person that you count as a friends sticks around, so I'm very grateful for my friends that have stuck with me because it means more to me than I let on.

3. I'm thankful for music. Music is and always will be a huge part of my life.  Whenever I get the chance, I'll have my headphones in.  I love nothing more than listening to my favourite artists and finding out about them and their musical inspirations.
For me, music is a painkiller, when I'm feeling upset I can always find a song that I can relate too and that relates to the situation that I'm in. A nd at the same time, it's the first thing I go to when I'm happy cause there's nothing more fun than dancing around your room to your favourite band.

4. I'm thankful for the people that make the music I love.  If it wasn't for the artists then I wouldn't have the music that I love so much.  I'll always be thankful towards my favourite musicians for giving me the words I need when I'm struggling with what to say. And also for the awesome beats, bass lines and guitar solos (yes, I'm referring to Jeff Stinco with the guitar solos).

5. I'm thankful for my education.  There's not a day that goes by when I don't complain about school, and I'm sure most teenagers are the same.  I'm either moaning about going to school, the day I've had at school or the mountains of homework that I'd happily bury on a desert island.
But at the same time I'm glad that I've been given the chance to go to school as there are so many people that don't get that opportunity.  And also it's how I learned to read and write, which are big parts of my life! So even if I hate it now I hope I can make the most of my education later on in my life, just so I can say it was worthwhile.

I could have gone down the route off talking about the song 'Thank You' by Simple Plan (an amazing song by the way!) which is  about your best friend backstabbing you (been there, done that, got the t-shirt! But I hope I've not been the one who's backstabbed, if I have then I'm sorry I don't like hurting people, but I definitely know what it's like to be backstabbed) but I thought it would be a lot nicer to write about this! I hope that wherever you are, you've had a good thanks giving!

My 10 Current Must Read Novels!

Photo taken from Pinterest. All Credit goes to the owner.

So I spend a lot of my free time in imaginary worlds, as I love nothing better than getting stuck into a good book! I've always loved to try writing my own stories and loving coming up with new story lines and ideas. Another thing that I love to do is share the stories that I love with my friends (which is exactly how I got my friend Rebekah hooked on Ally Carter novels!) so I thought that I could share some of my favourite books and book series with you all!

1. The Gallagher Girls Series by Ally Carter

2. Last Chance by Sarah Dessen

3. Skin Deep by Laura Jarret

4. The Harry Potter Series by J.K Rowling

5.  Teen Idol by Meg Cabot

6. The Heist Society Series by Ally Carter

7. The Perks Of Being A Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

8. The Princess Diaries Series by Meg Cabot

9. Jessie Hearts NYC by Keris Stainton

10.  Stargirl Series by Jerry Spinelli

I found it very difficult to make this list as there are so many books out there that I love but these have got to be some of my most favourite ones as they're stories that have stayed with me and are by authors that I love!

Mittens, Stress & Secret Websites!

It's almost that time of year again! For me I don't like to get into the Christmas spirit too early, I normally wait till December. But I couldn't help but get a little excited when I went into Starbucks and was served my hot chocolate in a Christmas cup!

Unfortunately for me Christmas is quite a stressful time as well as being exciting. I'm in my 5th year at high school (I think that's year 11 in England, please correct me if I'm wrong) and I'm studying 5 Highers. I'm doing 3 courses over 1 year (Health & Food Technology, Geography and Business Management) and 2 courses over 2 years (English and Maths).
This means that I've recently been sitting NAB (National Assessment Bank) exams. These are mini exams which you have to sit and pass in order to sit the final exam. I'm doing okay(ish) so far but I am finding it all pretty stressful.
I'm finding the Higher Geography course difficult and I am very scared about sitting my 2nd NAB for the course at the end of the week (I failed my 1st NAB for the course 2 weeks ago but I failed, luckily I passed the resit though) so I am very nervous, but trying to stay hopeful that I will pass it first time.
As well as NAB's I also have rehearsals for my school Christmas concert and concert rehearsals for a regional showcase concert that I'm doing next March. And I've got a few mountains of homework that I need to battle my way through. So saying that I'm letting the stress get to me would be an understatement. A huge one.
In order to get me into the Christmas spirit and to try and help me feel a little less stressed my mum decided to surprise me a lovely bag of maltesers and some snowmen mittens at Primark which she got for me while I was at maths tutoring.
I also got to see my bestie Hannah for the first time in a while this week which was really nice! When I was with her she introduced to me to a world which I'm sad to say that I've been deprived of up until now. And that world is
I spent a very long time browsing through the website and drooling over the scrumptious looking creations! I would definitely recommend taking a look at the website then taking a copy of your favourite recipe with you on your next Starbucks visit (I know that's what I'll definitely be doing!)
So basically, although I'm currently very stressed and a little scared, I'm looking forward to Christmas and all the duvet days and hot chocolate that comes with it!
Quick side note!
I was very excited the other day as Simple Plan announced the release date, title and track list for their new EP 'Get Your Heart On - The Second Coming!' and I cannot wait! The 3rd of December is when it will be released and it is currently my light in the darkness and I'm very excited to hear some new music from the boys!

My November Playlist 2013

Photo taken from Pinterest. All Credit goes to the owner.
So instead of doing seasonal playlists I've decided to start a monthly playlist blog post instead :)
It will probably have a lot of similar artists but I will try my best to make it a bit of a variety.
Anyway, her is my November Playlist:

All Time Low - Oh, Calamity!

Simple Plan - Perfect

Pierce The Veil - I'm Low On Gas & You Need A Jacket (Acoustic From Hot Sessions)

Marianas Trench - Fallout

Carrie Hope Fletcher - The Way We Were

The Wanted - Show Me Love(America) (Acoustic From Sunday Brunch)

Hello Monroe - You & I

Tonight Alive - Lonely Girl

I've only started listening to Marianas Trench recently but I really love their music. It's different & quirky. I also love how they've made their recent music videos link together as one story, it's a really good idea & I'm really glad that I started listening to them & I would definitely recommend checking them out!

My Autumn Playlist 2013

Autumn has always been my favourite season. There's just something beautiful about it. The colour of the leaves and the dark nights. The rain on the windows and the movie nights. I just love autumn and I thought I'd share some of the songs that I've been listening too:

Simple Plan - Meet You There
Photo taken from Pinterest. All Credit goes to the owner.
Malory Knox - Lighthouse
Kodaline - All I Want
All Time Low - For Baltimore
All Time Low - Therapy
All Time Low - Somewhere In Neverland
Simple Plan - Try
David Bowie - Heroes
Ed Sheeran- Autumn Leaves
Photo taken from Pinterest. All Credit goes to the owner.
I particularly love the songs 'Meet You There' by Simple Plan and 'Autumn Leaves' by Ed Sheeran. They are both songs which mean a lot to me because they're beautiful yet they're not complex, which is something that I've always loved about both these artists.
They care about the music, how it helps people and how it makes people feel and this is what makes their music beautiful.

My First Concert | Lawson - Everywhere We Go Tour 2013

Photo taken from Lawson's Twitter account. All Credit goes to the owner.

On the 9th of October me & my friend Sarah travelled through to Glasgow to see Lawson as part of their Everywhere We Go Tour.  It was my first concert so I was really excited especially since Lawson are one of my favourite bands, but I was also a little nervous as I knew there would be a lot of people there.
When we arrived I was really shocked to see ROOM94 (one of the two support acts) right across the road from where we had parked.  I wanted to go over and say hi but I was too nervous just to go up to them.  Also, I knew we had to get in the queue because we had balcony tickets which is unallocated seating.  But I am a little gutted that I didn't go and say hi to them.

Paighton and ROOM94 were the support acts and they were both amazing!  They were really talented and were great at interacting with the audience.  During the break between ROOM94 and Lawson me & Sarah started talking to the couple next to us (we never got their names) and they were really nice. The girl was telling me loads of useful ways that I could get into the radio and film industry and it was lovely meeting both of them.  They were a good laugh and the girl was telling me about when she saw Simple Plan live (I was so jealous). And it was the guys first concert too so I didn't feel so nervous about that.
When Lawson came on they had an amazing entrance but just as the curtain dropped the security guard there asked me to stop filming :(
Throughout the entire concert they had an amazing stage presence and they made sure the crowd was always involved and engaged which I loved. I absolutely loved Andy's tartan scarf that he had attached to the back of his jeans!

I really enjoyed the acoustic set that they done, especially Waterfall as it's always been one of my favourite songs from the Chapman Square album.

For their encore they sang Everywhere You Go and Standing In The Dark. I will admit that I got a bit tearful during Standing In The Dark, partly because I knew it was the last song and partly because I am so proud. From filming covers in their kitchen to their own headline tour in the UK, I couldn't be more proud of Andy, Joel, Adam and Ryan.

HELLO MONROE: An Interview with Aimee

A while ago when I was on YouTube I found a band called Hello Monroe and I fell in love. They have their own unique sound and amazing chemistry, which makes them stand out as a group and is something that I really love about them.
The band consists of Aimee, Rona, Connor, Alex and Max.

My favourite song of theirs is called 'Find Me' and I really hope that I get to hear it performed live one day! I'm lucky enough to have had tweets from the members of the band and to have won my own 'Monroes Before Bros' t-shirt! (Which I love wearing!!)

Now I'm even lucky enough to get to do an online interview with band member Aimee who has answered your questions!

-When was Hello Monroe formed?
"Hello Monroe was formed in 2010 when myself and Rona were discovered on YouTube from doing a cover of "telephone" by lady gaga and the boys went to school together and we all came together to join forces!!!"

-How did you decide on the name Hello Monroe?
"I was sitting in Uni before I met anyone or even thought about a band and the name just came to me and I thought that would be a cool name for a band if I ever had one and I told everyone and they loved it!!!"

-What song do you enjoy performing the most?
"It has to be Another Love Song our single!!! I can't wait for everyone to hear it!!!"

-How excited are you for the release of your first music video?
"We have been waiting so long to do a video and finally it's all happening!!! I'm so excited to release it!!!"

-Would you rather be Max or Connor for a day?
"I think they both have their strong points!
If I was max for a day I would know how it feels to have so many twitter
followers and fans.
And if I was Connor for a day I would sit around and take selfies and admire how
fantastic I look"

-What's your favourite thing about being in Hello Monroe?
"It sounds so cliché but what I love is the fact that I am putting myself out there to do what I love, I love performing and writing songs and I get to do all that with my best friends.
We are a #HelloMonroeFamily and it's so great to have that bond, connection and
support system.
We love each other to death and getting to be in this band together makes me
happy every day"

-What artists do you like to listen too?
"I love female singers so Demi Lovato, Etta James, Amy Winehouse. But I also LOVE Arthur Walwin, The 1975 and Pierce The Veil"

-What advice do you have for any aspiring musicians?
"Believe in yourself because no one else is gonna do that for you.
If you want something be proactive about it straight away, don't wait for things to happen, it's up to YOU to make it happen"

-What other hobbies do you have?
"I spend a lot of time with animals.
I walk and play with my dogs all the time!"

-Do you like watching youtubers? If you do, what youtubers do you like?
"I LOVE Melon Lady's videos she is so cute and so funny and it's just effortless to her! She seems quite humble and down to earth too!"

-Do you have any funny stories about Hello Monroe?
"Oh we have too many!
I remember we were all living in a house in Wales and we were all play fighting and Max picked me up and literally gave me a stone cold stunner onto a bed and I cracked my elbow SO HARD on the edge I thought it was broken and Max was in tears!
Another time would be when Rona forgot ALL of our HM posters for our first ever show in Glasgow.
And any time when Connor and Alex fall is always funny!"

-Will there be any more Hello Monroe meet ups in the UK?
"Yes there definitely will! I think the next one for now will be in Liverpool!"

-What TV shows do you like to watch?
"Breaking Bad, The IT Crowd and Orange Is The New Black!"

-If you could marry any celebrity who would it be & why?
"I'm gonna be a total girl and say Ryan Gosling, he's just so handsome and he has a great sense of humour in interviews. SWOOOOON!"

-You're a very fashionable person, where do you like to shop? And who are your favourite designers?
"I like Zara, Nikki Lipstick, Forever 21
Favourite designers would be Jeffrey Campbell, I like small independent ones like Aurora Trance, Deadweight and Sex, drugs and violence apparel"

-Can you play any instruments?
"I can play piano! I've always wanted to learn how to play Sax though"

-Who are your favourite upcoming musicians?
"Arthur Walwin, Stake Out and Tall Dark Friend and I suggest everyone checks them out!!!"

Hello Monroe are an amazing band and deserve a lot more recognition and I feel very lucky to say that I've been a fan from the beginning. I can't wait to see where they go from here and I know that they are gonna do really well in the music industry!

You can follow the band on twitter:

And you can subscribe to them on YouTube:

Monday, 26 August 2013

Hello :)

I have never made a blog before so I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing or how to use blogger but I'm just gonna give it a go.

The general idea for my blog is to post music, book, film & youtube reviews along with some random posts and probably some rant posts along the way.

I'm going to try my best to post once a week or maybe more often.

I might also have a go at posting some creative writing & just generally writing my opinion on various stuff.

If there's anything you want me to blog about then please tell me & I'll do my best to write a post for you.
